This print showcases a fragment of the Dead Sea scroll, dating back to the 1st century AD. Discovered between 1947 and 1979 in caves along the north-western shore of the Dead Sea, these scrolls are among the earliest surviving biblical documents. Known as the War of the Sons of Light Against the Sons of Darkness or 4Q491, this particular fragment is a military text written in Herodian script, which was used during King Herod's reign. The scroll describes an apocalyptic prophecy that foretells a war between two factions: the Sons of Light representing the Jewish army and their adversaries, known as the Sons of Darkness from Assyria's Kittim troops. This historical artifact offers valuable insights into religious beliefs and cultural practices during that time. Displayed against a striking blue background in this studio shot by Matson Photo Service, this image captures not only its historical significance but also its artistic beauty. The intricate writings on this fragment symbolize centuries-old wisdom preserved through meticulous craftsmanship. Housed at Qumran Museum in Israel, this piece serves as a testament to humanity's enduring fascination with religion, history, and conflict.
