EDITORS COMMENTS
This photograph captures the essence of Angel Tavern, a lost gem nestled in Fore Street, Edmonton. The image showcases the building after its reconstruction in 1930 by the esteemed architect A W Blomfield FRIBA, commissioned by Watney, Combe, Reid & Co brewery. The architectural details are strikingly evident as one gazes upon this lantern slide print. The pub stands tall with an air of grandeur, exuding charm and character from every brick and beam. It is a testament to the craftsmanship of its time. Sadly, this historic establishment met its demise in the late 1960s when it was demolished to make way for progress - specifically for the construction of North Circular Road. However, thanks to Historic England Archive's preservation efforts through photography prints like these, we can still appreciate and admire what once stood proudly on that very spot. As we peer into this window to the past captured by His toric England Archive, we are transported back to a different era where patrons would gather within those walls seeking solace or camaraderie over pints of ale or lively conversations. Let us cherish these glimpses into our history as they serve as reminders that even though physical structures may vanish over time due to modernization or development projects; their stories continue to live on through images such as this one.
