Foot muscles, artwork C013 / 4477

Foot muscles. Computer artwork of a view from below of some of the muscles and tendons (red and white) of the sole of the foot. These are the muscles anchored to the heel bone (calcaneus) that are used to bend (flex) the bones of the toes (phalanges). They are the flexor digitorum brevis muscle (middle four tendons), the abductor digiti minimi muscle (attached to little toe), and the abductor hallucis muscle (attached to the big toe). The latter two muscles also help stabilise and support the sides of the foot while standing or moving. The left foot (left) includes some of the ligaments (white) joining the bones

EDITORS COMMENTS
This print showcases the intricate and powerful foot muscles in all their glory. From a unique perspective below, we are granted a glimpse into the complex network of tendons and muscles that make up the sole of our feet. The vibrant red and white hues beautifully highlight these essential components of our musculoskeletal system. At the forefront, we see the flexor digitorum brevis muscle with its four tendons, responsible for bending or flexing the bones of our toes. Adjacent to it is the abductor digiti minimi muscle, attached to our little toe, which not only aids in toe movement but also provides stability to the sides of our foot while standing or moving. Lastly, we observe the abductor hallucis muscle connected to our big toe, serving similar functions as its counterpart. The attention to detail extends beyond just showcasing these remarkable muscles; ligaments joining various bones can be seen on display as well. This comprehensive illustration offers valuable insight into both anatomy enthusiasts and those seeking a deeper understanding of their own bodies. With this artwork from Springer Medizin/Science Photo Library adorning your space, you invite an appreciation for human biology's marvels while celebrating strength and resilience found within every step we take.
