EDITORS COMMENTS
In this nostalgic photo print, we witness a momentous occasion at the Triumph Motor Company's Canley works. The image captures the last Triumph Herald - a 13/60 convertible, as it rolls off the No. 1 assembly line. The significance of this event is evident in the jubilant atmosphere surrounding Mr. M. W. Sanders, director and general manager, who proudly drives the white convertible amidst cheers from workers. Mr. Sanders himself acknowledges the Herald's contribution during challenging times, stating that it has been a loyal companion to them throughout difficult periods. This sentiment reflects not only his personal connection with the vehicle but also highlights its importance within the company's history. Since its introduction in September 1959, an impressive total of 532,412 various Herald cars have been manufactured at Canley assembly under Mr. Sanders' supervision. However, now it is time for change as a new model called the 1500 will take over production on this very same line alongside Spitfire and GT sports cars.
