Atten-Shun! His Grace the Duke of Atholl, has his very own private army

Atten-Shun! His Grace the Duke of Atholl, has his very own private army, the Atholl Highlanders. The Duke, commander of the Highlanders, the only private army in Europe musters his forces before marching into action. Not, sad to say, against some robber baron or upstart knight. Instead the target was the capture of more tourists for the Dukes Perthshire castle, Scotland. And it was mission accomplished as hundreds of spectators crowded the lawns to watch the Highlanders being reviewed by their commandant. As the tourists went off to tour the castle as 3s 6d a time, the Highlanders collected their pay - a whisky. The line-up of the Atholl Highlanders in front of Blair Castle and being inspected by the Duke of Atholl. The 36-year-old Duke holds the parade of his private army every year.

EDITORS COMMENTS
In this photo print, we witness a truly unique sight - His Grace the Duke of Atholl and his very own private army, the Atholl Highlanders. As commander of Europe's only private army, the Duke musters his forces before embarking on a rather unconventional mission. Instead of engaging in battle against foes, their target is to capture more tourists for the Duke's magnificent Perthshire castle in Scotland. With precision and discipline, the Highlanders line up in front of Blair Castle as they await inspection by their esteemed commandant. The 36-year-old Duke takes great pride in holding this annual parade, showcasing the strength and tradition embodied by his loyal soldiers. As hundreds of spectators gather on the lawns to witness this extraordinary display of power and heritage, it becomes evident that their efforts have paid off. Tourists flock to explore the castle grounds at a modest fee while being treated to an unforgettable spectacle. Once their duty is fulfilled, these brave warriors are rewarded with a well-deserved whisky as payment for their services. This charming tradition adds an element of camaraderie among them and further solidifies their bond as members of this exclusive military unit. Captured in May 1968 by Mirrorpix from Memory Lane Prints, this photograph immortalizes not just a moment but also showcases how nobility can intertwine with history and tourism. It serves as a reminder that even within modern society, there are still remarkable stories waiting to be discovered behind ancient walls adorned with tartan-clad soldiers marching proudly into action.
