In the image, potential volunteers undergo weight tests at the regimental depot in Belgaum, India. At the onset of the war, the Indian Army counted approximately 200,000 men. However, as the conflict progressed, it grew to become the largest all-volunteer force in history, with over 2.5 million soldiers.
