EDITORS COMMENTS
This photograph showcases the Bell P-63F King Cobra military aircraft with the registration number N443, which holds an intriguing history. The P-63F-1-BE Kingcobra, with manufacturing serial number 33-536, was initially built for the United States Army Air Force in 1946 as 43-117191. H.L. Pemberton later registered the plane as NX1719 and competed in the Bendix Transcontinental Race with race number 21 in 1954. The King Cobra then underwent several ownership changes, including Trans American Aviation Service in Chicago, Illinois (N1719), A.T. George in Atlanta, Georgia (N447AG), and Dr. Smith in Sarasota, Florida. In 1974, Jack Flaherty of Flaherty Factors, Inc., Holliston, California, registered the aircraft as N6763 and competed in various races with numbers 28, later 4, and finally 6. From 1977 to 1981, the P-63F King Cobra was part of the Whittington Brothers' fleet in Fort Lauderdale, Florida. The Commemorative Air Force (CAF) acquired the aircraft in 1981 and registered it as N6763, marking it as 411719-USAF-4117. The photograph, taken circa 1960, captures the essence of this historic military aircraft and its rich history.
