EDITORS COMMENTS
1. Title: "Orodromeus: A Mesozoic Herbivore from North America's Cretaceous Period". This illustration showcases the enigmatic Orodromeus, an intriguing dinosaur that roamed the lands of North America during the late Cretaceous period, approximately 75 million years ago. Belonging to the Ornithischian group, Orodromeus was a small, agile herbivore that measured around 1.5 meters in length. Orodromeus is a member of the Hypsilophodontidae family, characterized by its long, slender snout and small, leaf-shaped teeth, which were well-suited for grasping and shearing plant material. Its name, derived from the Greek words "oros" (mountain) and "dromos" (runner), reflects its presumed mountainous habitat and nimble disposition. The Orodromeus was a diapsid, a subclass of reptiles characterized by two openings in the skull for the passage of the temporal artery and vein. It was also an archosaur, a group of reptiles that includes crocodiles, birds, and dinosaurs. More specifically, it was an ornithischian, a subgroup of dinosaurs characterized by their hip structure and the presence of a beak. The Orodromeus is considered a basal euornithopod, a group of ornithischians that includes the Iguanodon and the Hadrosauridae. Its skeletal remains were first discovered in Montana, USA, in the late 1920s, providing valuable insights into the diverse fauna of the Cretaceous period. This illustration offers a glimpse into the past, allowing us to appreciate the intricacies of this fascinating creature and the richness of the Mesozoic world. The long, flowing lines and meticulous details bring the Orodromeus to life, transporting us back in time to a world of wonder and discovery.
