This stunning handcoloured lithograph depicts the uniform of a French Marechal d'Empire from the Napoleonic era, created by the renowned French publisher Le Bibliophile Jacob under the direction of Paul Lacroix for the series "Costumes Historiques de la France" in 1852. The Marechal d'Empire, or Imperial Marshal, was a high military rank established by Napoleon Bonaparte in 1804, symbolizing the grandeur and power of the French Empire. The uniform, richly adorned with gold braid, epaulettes, and emblems, reflects the opulence and grandeur of the Napoleonic period. The Marechal wears a tricorn hat, a traditional headgear of the French army, adorned with a cockade and a plume. The cockade, a symbol of the French Revolution, features the tricolor of the French flag. The star on the hat represents the rank of Marshal.
