Clare Sheridan, the English sculptress, traveller, and writer, is depicted in this photograph from the Sketch magazine in 1929, at her home in Bab-el-M Cid, Biskra, Algeria. Born as Clare Consuelo Frewen, Sheridan's artistic journey began in earnest when she travelled to Spain in her twenties, where she studied under the renowned sculptor, Joaquín Sorolla.
