EDITORS COMMENTS
This print captures Russian author Alexander Kuprin in the company of his friends during their time in Paris in the 1930s. Known as the "Russian Kipling". Kuprin was a renowned short story writer, celebrated for his literary contributions. The image showcases a group portrait set against an outdoor backdrop, with a table adorned with food and drinks serving as the focal point. In this snapshot of camaraderie, we see men and women gathered together, enjoying each other's company amidst lush greenery. Their attire reflects the fashion trends of the era, adding to the charm of this scene frozen in time. This gathering exudes an air of sophistication and intellectualism that is synonymous with artistic circles. It is worth noting that Kuprin's political stance differed from that of the Bolsheviks, prompting him to leave Russia for Paris in 1919. However, he returned to his homeland nearly two decades later before his passing in 1938. Preserved within the State Museum of AS Pushkin in Moscow, this archival photograph offers us a glimpse into both personal and historical dimensions. It serves as a testament to friendship transcending borders while providing insight into one man's journey through life amid turbulent times.
