Some of the halls were damaged by the Fire of London and the Blitz, and today 40 companies still have halls in the City. The current Leathersellers Hall was completed in 1960, replacing its predecessor, destroyed in 1941 by a German incendiary bomb

EDITORS COMMENTS
This print by Michael Walters showcases the magnificent Leathersellers Hall in the City of London, captured in 1977. The hall is home to the prestigious Leathersellers Company, a Royal Livery Company with a rich history dating back to its royal charter granted by King Henry VI in 1444. This esteemed company had the authority to regulate and oversee leather manufacturing and trade across the United Kingdom. The photograph beautifully captures the grandeur of this historic building, which serves as a testament to British craftsmanship and tradition. The Leathersellers Hall depicted here was actually completed in 1960, replacing its predecessor that fell victim to a devastating German incendiary bomb during World War II. Stepping into this banqueting hall is like stepping back in time; it exudes elegance and sophistication. The image reveals an opulent dining room adorned with exquisite chandeliers illuminating long tables set with fine crockery. The attention to detail extends beyond just furniture and lighting; every element within this interior space reflects English heritage at its finest. Leathersellers Hall stands as one of many halls owned by Livery Companies throughout the City of London where business transactions were conducted and guests entertained for centuries. Despite some halls being damaged during significant events such as the Great Fire of London or bombings during World War II, today around 40 companies still maintain their own halls within this historic area. Michael Walters' photography perfectly encapsulates both the timeless beauty of Leathersellers Hall and its significance within Britain's cultural landscape.
