EDITORS COMMENTS
This print captures the iconic International Harvester tractor factory in Doncaster, South Yorkshire, back in 1966. The artist beautifully portrays the grandeur of this industrial landmark that played a significant role in shaping the renowned International Harvester brand. Operating on Wheatley Hall Road since 1930, the Doncaster plant was instrumental in establishing International Harvester as a global leader in agricultural machinery. However, after nearly seven decades of success, changes occurred within the company. In 1985, International sold its agricultural division to Tenneco who later merged with Case. Tractor production continued at this very site until 2007 when it sadly closed its doors for good. The new owners relocated production to Italy under ARGO spa ownership, marking an end to 77 years of tractor manufacturing history in Doncaster. The image showcases a snapshot of life inside the factory during its heyday - hardworking men diligently operating machines and contributing to British agriculture's progress. This monochrome masterpiece by Michael Walters from Paul Walters Worldwide Photography Ltd transports us back to a time when industry thrived and tractors were symbols of progress and productivity. As we admire this photograph today, let us remember the legacy left behind by International Harvester's presence in Doncaster - forever etched into South Yorkshire's rich industrial heritage.
