Captain John Augustus Wood, Bushire, Persia, 1856. John Wood was a Scottish recipient of the Victoria Cross, and captain in the 20th Bombay Native Infantry, Indian Army, during the Anglo-Persian War of 1856-1857. Captain Wood led a Grenadier Company which led the assault on the fort of Bushire. He was hit by seven musket balls at close range but continued to lead the attack, which was successful.
