One of the most popular scenes near Moab, Utah is sunrise at Mesa Arch in Canyonlands National Park. I arrived at Mesa Arch at 5:30am. I wanted to be the first photographer at the arch so that I could stake out my spot. To my delight I was the first to arrive... for a couple minutes at least. 5 minutes later my solitude was broken as groups of photographers joined us.For a saturday morning I was extremely lucky - only about 15 photographers showed up. No pushing or shoving, knocking tripods, or being rude. Everyone politely came over, found a spot, setup their tripods and waited. As the sun began to rise over the La Sal Mountains in the background, the rays of light hit the underside of Mesa Arch and caused it to glow!I chose this composition because I wanted to include as much of the plateau below the arch as I could. There are beautiful mesas, buttes, spires, canyons, and rivers here and I wanted to try to include them all! I also knew that I wanted to include some sky and as much of the arch as I could; at times I wished I could have even been more wide angle than I already was. I took a number of photos as the sun rose and I wanted to include the largest sunstar that I could; I chose this photo because it has the suns rays on both the mountains and the arch

In this print titled "Glowscape" photographer Aaron Meyers captures the breathtaking beauty of Mesa Arch at sunrise in Canyonlands National Park, near Moab, Utah. Meyers arrived at the arch before dawn, eager to secure his spot as the first photographer on site. For a brief moment, he relished in solitude until other photographers began to join him. Surprisingly, only about 15 photographers showed up that Saturday morning, and they all displayed remarkable courtesy and respect towards one another. No pushing or shoving occurred; instead, each person found their own spot and patiently set up their tripods. As the sun gradually ascended over the La Sal Mountains in the background, its rays illuminated the underside of Mesa Arch with an ethereal glow. Meyers deliberately chose this composition to showcase not only the majestic arch but also the vast plateau below it. He wanted to capture every element that makes this landscape so extraordinary – from mesas and buttes to spires and canyons – even including glimpses of rivers winding through them. The inclusion of a generous portion of sky further enhances the grandeur of this scene. Amongst numerous photos taken during sunrise, Meyers selected this particular shot for its ability to feature both mountains and arch bathed in sunlight while creating an impressive sunstar effect.
