EDITORS COMMENTS
This print takes us back in time to the grandeur of The Tapestry Hall, Ardenrun, Surrey. Captured by an English photographer from the 20th century, this image is part of Giles Worsley's renowned book 'England's Lost Houses' published in 2002. The Tapestry Hall was a magnificent creation built between 1906 and 1909 by Ernest Newton for Captain Woolf Barnato, a prominent racing motorist of his time. This particular hall was designed by a Parisian firm of decorators, adding an exquisite touch to its already impressive architecture. The photograph showcases the interior beauty of The Tapestry Hall with its intricate wood panelling and stunning tapestries adorning the walls. Every detail has been meticulously captured, allowing viewers to appreciate the craftsmanship that went into creating such a masterpiece. Sadly, tragedy struck when Ardenrun Place succumbed to fire in 1933. However, through this photograph we are able to glimpse into its former glory and imagine what it must have been like during its heyday. Thanks to Bridgeman Images' Fine Art Finder collection, we can now own a piece of history with this remarkable photo print. It serves as a reminder not only of England's lost houses but also of the incredible talent and artistry that once graced our architectural landscape.
